Who are we?
Siyana is an app that lets imams and speakers record and publish their sermons, lectures, classes and reminders, and lets listeners listen to them.
For any question about your data: contact@siyana.org.
Our commitment
- Siyana shows no advertising.
- We never sell or rent your data.
- We do no advertising tracking and build no commercial profile.
- We only collect what is necessary for the app to work.
The data we collect
For all accounts
- Email address and password (the password is handled securely by our authentication provider; we never have access to it in plain text).
- Your first name and your sex (used only to give access to content reserved for sisters).
- Confirmation that you are 15 or over, given at registration. We do not ask for your date of birth.
- The language of the app, so that we can write to you and send your notifications in that language.
- The imams, speakers and mosques you follow.
- A technical notification identifier, to notify you of new publications.
- Your content reports, if any.
For imams and speakers, in addition
- The information on your profile: title, photo, city, country, teaching languages, short introduction, link to a website, verse of the moment.
- Your last name, your personal phone number, your affiliated mosques and the contact details of your mosque or organisation (including its phone number), provided at registration to verify your identity.
- The content you publish (audio, texts) and its information (title, topic, language, date, references).
- Information related to your subscription (status, dates), without any bank data.
What stays on your phone: your favourite content, your listening progress, the reminders you have read, your offline downloads and your drafts. They are not sent to us. Only the imams, speakers and mosques you follow are saved in your account, to notify you of their publications.
Why we use them
- To run your account and the app: sign-in, listening, publishing, favourites, notifications.
- To verify imams and speakers before they can publish.
- To protect the community: handle reports, prevent abuse.
- To manage the subscription of imams and speakers.
- To write to you about your account (approval, deletion…).
This processing is based on the performance of the service you use, on your consent (notifications), on our legitimate interest in keeping the app secure, and on our legal obligations (payments).
What is public
The public profile of an imam or speaker (name, title, photo, city, country, languages, introduction, link, mosques) and their published content are visible to Siyana users. Content “reserved for sisters” is only offered to women users. Listener accounts are never public.
Who has access to your data
- Google Firebase (Google Cloud): hosting of the app, accounts and content, sending of notifications. All data is hosted in the European Union: the database in the “eur3” multi-region (Belgium and the Netherlands), audio files, images and server functions in the “europe-west3” region (Frankfurt).
- Stripe: payment of the subscription. Your bank details are entered and stored only at Stripe, never with us.
- IONOS: sending of account-related emails.
These providers act on our instructions and are bound to protect your data. Some may process data outside the European Union, under the safeguards provided by the GDPR.
How long we keep them
- Your data is kept as long as your account exists.
- Deleting a listener account: immediate, from the app.
- Deleting an imam or speaker account: applied 28 days after the request, to leave time to change one's mind. They can choose to leave their content online or to delete everything.
- Content that was reported and then deleted is kept for 90 days, only to be able to review the report, then erased.
- Payment information is kept by Stripe under its own legal obligations.
Security
Exchanges between the app and our servers are encrypted. Access to data is limited by strict rules: everyone can only change what concerns them. The app prevents audio capture by other apps, and downloaded content stays locked inside Siyana.
Minimum age
Siyana is intended for people aged 15 and over. We do not knowingly collect data about children under 15.
Your rights
You can at any time access your data, correct it, have it deleted, object to its use, restrict its use or ask for a copy. Much of this can be done directly in the app (My account). For the rest, write to us at contact@siyana.org.
To delete your account, see the dedicated page.
If you believe your rights are not respected, you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (www.cnil.fr).
Changes
We may update this policy. In the event of a significant change, we will inform you in the app.
